Where the answers come from
Every answer in this tool shows its source, so you know how much to trust it:
- 2012 to 2025: third-party answer keys for each year's paper.
- 2007: the answers printed in the third-party copy of the paper Tootler transcribed.
- Not official yet: none have been checked against UPSC's own key. You can compare any answer with UPSC's official answer keys.
How to practise PYQs so they stick
- Go topic by topic first. When you finish a part of the syllabus, solve its previous year questions straight away. You learn what UPSC actually asks and how deep it goes.
- Read the trap, not just the answer. Most wrong answers come from a pattern UPSC uses again and again: an extreme word, a swapped detail, a plausible scheme name. Each question here explains its trap.
- Revisit what you miss. A question you got wrong once will catch you again unless you come back to it after a few days, and again after a few weeks.
- Finish with full papers. In the last months before Prelims, take complete papers from the official UPSC archive under exam conditions.
Frequently asked questions
How many Polity and Governance questions come in UPSC Prelims?
259 Polity and Governance questions appeared in UPSC Prelims General Studies papers between 2007 and 2026. The most-asked topics are Parliament and Legislative Process (38), Rights Issues, Welfare and Governance (37), Fundamental Rights, DPSP and Fundamental Duties (33).
Which Polity and Governance topics should I practise first?
Start with the topics UPSC asks most often: Parliament and Legislative Process (38), Rights Issues, Welfare and Governance (37), Fundamental Rights, DPSP and Fundamental Duties (33). Then practise the rest topic by topic, and finish with mixed sets of the last five years to see the current pattern.
Where do the answers come from? Are they official?
Not yet official. For 2012 to 2025 the answers come from third-party answer keys for each year's paper, and for 2007 from the answers printed in the third-party copy of that paper. None have been checked against UPSC's official key yet, so every answer shows its source and a link to UPSC's answer keys at upsc.gov.in. UPSC publishes its final Prelims answer key only after the final result of that year's exam. If you spot a wrong answer, email support@tootler.ai.
Do I need to sign up or pay?
No. The practice tool is free and works without an account. Pick a subject, start, and every answer appears as soon as you choose an option.
Where can I download the official UPSC question papers?
UPSC publishes previous question papers for every exam on its website, at upsc.gov.in under Examinations, then Previous Question Papers. Use those PDFs for full-length, timed practice once you have worked through the topics here.
Questions are Tootler's transcription of UPSC Civil Services Prelims General Studies papers. Answers are from third-party keys and are not yet checked against UPSC's official key, which UPSC releases only after the final result (The Tribune). Tootler is not affiliated with UPSC.
